so.... you did something illegal and had to spend a night in a makeshift jail that wasn't club med? forgive me for not shedding a tear. Can't wait for the front page article blasting evil republicans for your own stupidity. It was also nice to see the set-up for this story made the front page and not the RNC itself. Its not like the RNC was headlined by a Democrat Senator blasting the Kerry campaign. I think its 2 paragraph coverage on page 5 or whatever was quite appropriate. The Stater could at least make a feeble attempt at being bipartisan every once in awhile. *awaits IP to be banned for having a conflicting opinion*
You make me laugh Anonymous. We will try to forgive you for your stupidity in not having THE FACTS on what happened to Nick and Beth AND ALL who were arrested...........No fogiveness for the fact that you are obviously "one of those Republicans" who blindly follow a "leader" who doesn't have a clue where they are going.
Maybe you should go into circumstance resembling a POW camp or some 3rd world country where you are thrown in jail. What did they illegally do> They were reporting...did you not get that...reporters for KSU
Amazing...actually you have given quite a few of us here a darn good laugh. Can't wait to hear more from you.
Thanks Nick and Pat for helping Beth get back to the "other side". Beth sounded pretty sick, coughing and stuff when we talked at 3:15 this morning. Hopefully she will feel better after some sleep, food and shower. See Nick's story in the Cleveland Plain Dealer today. Page A13! Way to go Nick! Safe travels home. Beth's Mom
I guess what I should say is "read the story" the Plain Dealer published today about the troubles in NYC and their mention of Nick, Beth and Pat. Sorry, my mistake.
Super-glad to hear that everyone made it out okay. I was worried about Beth & her health. Girl should get some rest. "Anonymous" who posted pro-RNC: Good to see a conflicting opinion. We need more of that. But what you're not taking into account is that people's rights were violated. Rights were not read upon arrest, lawyers were not allowed access to those in custody, water and basic amenities were not provided. Should these people have been arrested? I can't answer that. Should they have been treated like prisoners of war just because they were an inconvenience to the RNC and NYPD? Absolutely not. The RNC chose to have its convention in NYC knowing the personality of that city. Did they really think NYC would accept them quietly? They had to have been delusional to believe that. Regardless of whether or not you support the GOP, you have to admit that NYC was not the place to take it if they didn't want to deal w/ protesters. At any rate, our Stater reps are alive and well, much to the relief of their families & friends. Pat: have you called mom? I strongly suggest it :) Later all, -=JJ=-
So here in the small town of Marblehead we're having dinner in a local establishment when the on the big screen tv above the bar we see Beth's mug shot and hear a familiar voice. Oh my. Way to make the 5 O'clock news Beth (& Nick). Mom's should never have to see their childrens mug shots on the 5 o'clock news. LOL. Safe travels. Love ya! Beth's Mom.
I'm glad to see you guys are OK. Kinda. Getting arrested is maybe kind of cool at first, but spending all that time in a terrible jail is definitely not. One person out here in Illinois asked me if I knew you; I was proud to say I did.
I hope everyone's feeling ok, and congrats for fighting through all this. Keep up the good fight. And now that you're *out of jail,* we can start thinking about writing about it. (Ahem, Carl...) I, for one, wasn't all that concerned about the eventual award-winning account of the experience until the experience was OVER. Hah.
Anyway, once again, I'm glad to hear you're free again, and all us grads are proud of you.
I second what Ben said. I, for one, am very proud of you guys for getting through this relatively unscathed.
As for "Anonymous" (who we al assume is a KSU College Republican)...if you homnestly believe they were doing something illegal by trying to cover a news event for your campus paper, then you're more blind than stupid about how the media is supposed to work. The protests are the news, the convention is mere talking points.
as a matter of fact I am not a college republican, Im not even registered as a republican. However the point I am putting across is that last time I checked it was supposed to be punishment, it was supposed to discourage you from ending up in such a place again. You compare it to a POW camp in a 3rd world country???? Did ANYONE die? Did ANYONE get tortured? O wait only Americans torture thier prisoners thats right (a whole different can of worms). However I will concede when it comes to Miranda rights not being issued, if true you have ground to stand on in that respect, however it does sound like basic essentials were provided ala food and you were in a shelter. As far as me being a "republican that blindly listens to what I'm told" thats kind of a contradicting statement seeing as how all the general public is ever told is "Bush is Evil, Bush is Bad, Anyone but Bush" I mean no less than 1/2 an hour after Bush was done speaking at the RNC all the liberal news channels immediately switched over to John Kerry bragging about how he was in Vietnam to cheering Springfield OH citizens. H was bashing Bush's Economic policies and how every job lost in Ohio was Bush's fault (no mention of greedy Unions or bad management etc) However I guess I missed the part where he explained what his plan was short of "Making a Change" Unfortunately Kerry's entire platform is that he isn't Bush. Perhaps he is making a smart move the more one thinks about it, if he doesn't say HOW he is going to accomplish his goals, nobody can accuse him of flip flopping on said issue.
Kerry anti-Iraq but voted to go to war Kerry anti-Patriot Act voted in favor (as did 97 other senators I beleive)
However congrats on all the coverage, to obad it wasn't a little bigger of a tragedy, you could have made a career out of it, i mean just look at Alan Canfora!
God, neo-cons are so blind. There is only one liberal cable news channel: CNN. Then there's Fox, which takes conservative TV to new lows. Everyone else is fairly balanced, especially on the election. Newsflash: Getting Kerry's statement after the speech is not being "anti-Bush", it's being balanced. They did the same thing after the DNC. You should give the whole "seeing both sides" thing a try sometime.
